Renegade Rewind!! (part 2)

Here are more of the great artists I visited with at the Renegade Craft Fair!

I love the idea of embroidered canvases, I think they would look lovely in a child's room!

Both of my sisters have clutches by Felix & Jayne - they are like carrying fun pieces of art - I may need one too!!

I have always liked hats (unfortunately this led to several "Blossom" moments when I was younger).  These hats are both stylish and functional - love love!!!

I have eyed her work for a couple of years now, thinking of who I could gift it to.  I don't think I could personally eat off of cockroach plates, but perhaps a Christmas present for my brother?! (hee hee)

Renegade Rewind! (Part 1)

Last weekend I went to my favorite fair of the year - The Renegade Craft Fair!!!  The highlight for me was meeting Elsie, I read her blog (A Beautiful Mess) pretty much every day - it's very inspirational, fun and creative - so I was super excited to meet her.  So excited, in fact, that I pretty much couldn't keep it together.  Essentially I saw her, rushed over and babbled like a moron, didn't stop to look at any of her cute goods (or breathe, for that matter) and then ran away.  Yeah, embarrassing.  She even gave me a self-titled CD of her fiance's music, Jeremy Larson (and it's great!!!)  Ah well, hopefully she'll be back next year and maybe I'll be a bit more calm!!

Renegade is just so fun, but I know not everyone gets to go (not living in Chicago and all), so here is a rewind of some of the great artists I got to meet along with their fabulous work.

Red Velvet Art (this is Elsie's shop)
She used to have the cutest print entitled, "Autumn Ella" and I wish wish wish I had purchased it when it was available - drat!

Stay warm

It's finally happened, the weather has slipped beneath the 80s and I'm afraid it's not going to return until next year.  We are back to that wonderful and awful transition part of the year (just like spring) where we are too cold or too hot, the layers getting put on and peeled off seemingly non-stop.  It got me thinking of things that make me feel warm, some literally, some a bit more figuratively (as in warm and fuzzy? Oh so cliche!)  Perhaps you'll feel the warmth as well...

This chunky neck-warmer is beautiful and less bulky than a scarf (love love!)

OK, they are not my size, but these vintage leather stacked pumps are divine!!

I would like to stay awhile here...

These terrariums remind me of days gone by, quietly lovely.

The softness of the color pallet, the toughness of the metal, this is a wear-anywhere necklace!

If I'm cozy, my phone should be cozy too, right?!

I would like to take a trip, just to carry this fantabulous suitcase - love love love!!!

I love the colors and general feeling of this gorgeous print - certainly a winner (ha ha!)

Le Ballon Rouge

It's a wonderful movie about a boy, some bullies and a balloon.  It was shot in 1956 and has very little dialogue.  It was the first movie I ever saw in a foreign language (it's in French).  And above all, it has stayed with me unlike any other movie..

I can't wait for Ella-Bean to experience this quietly perfect short film!  (And how precious, the little boy, the star of the film, is the 6-year-old son of the director).  But since we are doing our best to shield her from television until she is at least two, we will have to find the book.  Perhaps tomorrow...

Decisions, decisions...

We have no less than six paint swatch cards taped to our bedroom wall (and we may or may not have four more paint blocks on the walls that I covered with pictures!)  As it turns out, finding the perfect gray for your bedroom is easier said than done.  Some tip too far into light blue, others come across as being more taupe than gray.  I think I have it narrowed down to two, but we are still seeing what each shade looks like in the changing light of day (and night).

This room is a beautiful monochromatic take blending from gray to tan to brown - lovely!

This is a good example of gray turning more tan...I do love the combination with black, though!

I have loved this headboard for many years now (instead I used some reclaimed doors).  The pops of color, the quilt, and the perfect shade of gray really make this room inspirational!

This room eeps into blue, but I really like it.  That rug, in particular, looks heavenly (but I bet it's hard to clean!)

How-Tos (To Do!)

Today I was talking with a friend about an upcoming craft show she will be in (how cool is she?!) and I admitted the sad truth that I have been on a crafting hiatus.  There have just been too many bright sunny days where it would be a crime to stay in.  The danger of being on a crafting break is that inspiration and ideas don't stop (and really, that's a good thing).

Here is a great tutorial that I cannot wait to try!  Japanese masking tape is beautiful and can be used in so many different ways - fun wrapped presents, art journaling, greeting cards, gift tags, wall decal frames...I think you get the picture.  The great part about this tutorial is that it allows you to tailor your tape to your project (color scheme, pattern, theme and so on).

This is a fun tutorial that I may use to make Christmas presents (family members - please now forget that I said anything...or at least act surprised if you get one!)  After my Abuela moved into her new digs I became the recipient of some very pretty doilies, but I have to admit, I did not have a clue what I was going to do with them all...happily, now I do!

You think I jest?  Hardly.  This project is not only very do-able (hint: you use a soda can for part of it!) but you end up with something that you can continue to create with!  I cannot wait to both make this little camera AND take some fun pictures!!

I often swoon at light switch covers at Anthropologie...but I just cannot bring myself to pay for something that seems so frivolous.  Now I won't have to!  I have some pretty vintage papers that needed a good home and lots and lots of boring white light switch covers...now I just need a bit of time (for busy moms out there - this project is, in fact, easy enough to do while your little one is awake...though it does involve an X-Acto knife, so it's not necessarily a great help-me-with-this project).

Alright, this last one is on my list of life-time to-dos, and a shout-out of inspiration and faith to my sister who is in the midst of reupholstering a chair (which is covered in a terrible green brocade fabric...which she pulled back to find that the chair had been recovered once and the original fabric was a terrible rose brocade...ha!)  This before and after (it's really not a tutorial) has an amazing time-lapse video of the transformation...stunning!

Camping (in my mind!)

We have so much fun camping gear...we also have an 8 month old...so our camping gear has not been touched this year (or last year either - camping while very pregnant?  I don't think so.)  So perhaps this combination of access and circumstance explains why I am currently gaga over camping things.  They call to mind a romanticized vision of youth...sing-alongs, ghost stories, friends you made in a week who you swore you would write to (but never did)...what fun!  Perhaps in a year or two we'll be able to do more camping.  For now, though, enjoy some of my recent camping loves (a la etsy!)

(an Italian percolator you can take on the road!)

(such a pretty little tote.)

(I covet these prints!)
